Dena McMurdie has had an interest in art since she was very young. Growing up in the breathtaking countryside of Southern Alberta, Canada, she gained an appreciation for the beauty of nature and the landscape.
Since her early childhood, Dena has developed a deep love and passion for art and nature. She pursued her passion with 4 years of schooling at Brigham Young University-Idaho where she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She plans to continue her formal education in the near future.
Impressionism greatly inspired Dena and she implements the techniques she learned in her formal and informal education in her artwork. Her paintings represent the world as she would like others to see it. She uses bright colors and small, quick brush strokes to achieve the impressionistic style in her paintings. Most of her paintings are done “Alla Prima” or all in one sitting. This requires speed and confidence, leaving the finished piece with the feeling that she desires.
Dena has taught private art lessons, served as a judge for the Second Century Photo Competition in the Magic Valley, and received Second Place in the Fifth Annual Idaho Paints Idaho Competition. She is part of two fine art websites: artistrising.com (a branch of Art.com) and fineartamerica.com. Her work can be seen on both of these sights, and prints are offered on select pieces. The Saddletree Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho represents her work.
